The story of tea and spice from Java ( Wedang Jahe )
For hundreds of years, Indonesian have been using herb and spice in their tea. This tea is known as "Wedang Jahe". The word of wedang comes from Java own language meaning "a drink". The word "Jahe" means Ginger.
Oh, so this drink is made of ginger?
Well part of it.
This one particular drink is made of a few kinds of herbs and spices such as ;
- Star anise (2-3 pcs)
- Lemon grass ( 1 pc)
- Cinnamon (1 stick)
- Clove (5 pcs)
- Ginger (50 grams)
- Palm sugar or Honey to sweeten it.
Here is how to make it :
- First boil two glasses of water with all the herbs and spices until it changes colour. Then add palm sugar. You can add honey to taste when you serve it.
I will also describe all the properties of each of these herbs as below;
Star anise

Lemon grass helps to prevent the growth of some bacteria and yeast. It substance can helps to relieve pain and swelling, reduce fever, blood sugar level, and cholesterol the blood, also stimulate the uterus and menstrual flow.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon contain substance are : Carbohydrate, Calcium, zinc, Magnesium, fosfor, Calcium, as well as vitamin A and B. Five health benefits of cinnamon are;
Anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal

Help manage blood pressure

Honey
It is no doubt that honey is good for you. It contains all sort of minerals and anti bacterial that is beneficial for your body. Adding honey in your ginger tea ( wedang Jahe ) is just a complete finish that give your drink taste sweet and delicious.
I always give hot tea when my children got flu and it's true it really helps them to get better. But i never add those ingredients such as ginger, cinnamon,etc. Later i will try to add those. Nice, i love reading your blog. Keep writing
